Caring for your patients, together
Referrals are welcomed from GPs, paediatricians, psychiatrists, and allied health professionals. This page outlines what I assess, how to refer, and what you will receive in return.
Referrals I welcome
Autism, ADHD, and cognitive assessments
Comprehensive, neuroaffirming assessments for children and adults, concluding with a detailed report, a feedback session, and tailored recommendations. Suitable for first presentations as well as diagnostic clarification.
Therapy for adults
Individual therapy for adults (18+), in person in Port Macquarie or by telehealth. Referrals under a Mental Health Treatment Plan are accepted, and progress correspondence is provided to the referring GP.
As at 4 September 2026, the assessment process can begin within 4 weeks of confirmation. Capacity is demand-dependent, and this notice is updated as availability changes.
Availability for new therapy clients varies. Our practice will confirm receipt of your referral and be in touch with current availability.
How to refer
For assessments
A formal referral is not required - your patients may simply be directed to contact our practice. A referral letter is nonetheless welcomed: it provides clinical context and ensures you receive the outcome correspondence.
For therapy
Adults may be referred under a Mental Health Treatment Plan, or self-refer. Please include the plan and any relevant history with the referral.
Where to send
Email admin@ernestmateryn.com.au or phone 02 5574 3701. Enquiries are answered within 24 hours on business days.
What you receive
- On acceptance: a letter confirming the referral has been accepted, together with the planned approach and expected timeframes.
- On completion: a comprehensive written report, accompanied by a referral response letter summarising the diagnostic outcomes and recommended next steps.
- Written to be used: reports are written to inform clinical decisions. ADHD findings are set out to assist prescribers, and recommendations are practical, specific, and explained in plain language for families, schools, and workplaces.
Working alongside you
Occupational therapists and speech therapists often know a child best. Where a client is already engaged in therapy, your observations are drawn into the assessment through questionnaires and consultation, and the recommendations are written to dovetail with the work already underway. Direct contact from treating clinicians is welcome at any stage of the process.
To discuss a referral, or whether an assessment is the right next step for your patient, our practice would be pleased to hear from you.
